Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify students' goals of studying in the Department of Media and Communication Sciences at Taiz University. The researchers used the analytical descriptive research method and the interview tool, which included (4) main themes, (15) subthemes, and a random sample of (25) students. The results of the study showed that students have (1) personal goals including building personality and self-fulfillment, developing ideas, experiences and talents, achieving excellence, independence, self-confidence, attaining ambitions and personal desires; (2) academic goals including obtaining a university degree in Media, achieving academic excellence and  pursuing higher studies; (3) professional goals including acquiring practical and professional skills, obtaining employment opportunities at home and abroad; (4) social goals including establishing social relations, recognizing different working environments, gaining social status, reflecting reality, transmitting the truth, and learning communication skills and teamwork. On the basis of these results, the study concluded with a number of recommendations for developing students' skills and abilities at the academic and professional level through focusing on the practical side in parallel with the theoretical side.
